The holidays is always a good time to perform a bit of a reset when it comes to life. A time to asses the past year and where you set out to be and make any adjustments necessary in the the new year. It’s a time to come together with the ones you love and really give them the greatest gift you can give…your presence, not presents.

Over the years my family has really started to put more of an emphasis on the coming together component of Christmas and less on the giving of gifts. As we have all gotten older, we have begun to realize that the greatest gift we can give one another is to be present and undistracted by the stuff many people get focused on this time of year. Stuff is just stuff. People are what brings real joy and happiness to our lives so we choose to emphasize the holidays being about coming together.

With that said I will be taking the rest of this year off from the blog in order to give my family and friends this very gift, my presence. Being a new mother this year I am feeling the pull to be present with my family even more than ever and I want to take in every moment possible.

But just because I will not be writing about my health and fitness the next couple weeks, it will continue to be an important part of my life and will be something present in the choices I make these last couple weeks of 2016 and continue on to 2017. Health and fitness does not have to be an all or nothing proposition in your life, is just needs to be present in it. As long as you can acknowledge that your health and fitness is important to you, you can always choose to be more or less involved in changing or maintaining it throughout the year. Like anything, it will be more of a focus at certain times and less at others, and that is perfectly OK!  Don’t let the periods where it is de-emphasized discourage you. Just accept it for what it is. A momentary de-emphasis. When the time is right you will re-emphasize and turn up your commitment.

This holiday season I challenge you to take a step back and be present with your loved ones. This is a special time of year in which we get the opportunity to spend a lot of time with our friends and family and instead of focusing on gift giving and receiving, focus on being present with them and the gift that is having them in your life! There is no greater gift in the world!

Stronger by being present!
