It’s that time of year where it seems like everyone is putting together their New Year’s Resolutions. And not to knock this process some people enjoy, but, in my humble opinion, it means very little when all is said and done. Because here’s the thing about resolutions, they require, you guessed it, RESOLVE. And quite frankly, it’s something many of us have in short supply, therefore we set ourselves up for certain failure. And I don’t know about you, but I want to look forward to 2016 with optimism and belief in the goals I set for myself. Not set some list of arbitrary goals that I know are not attainable. Instead, this year I want to flip resolutions on their head and focus on intentions. Because lets be honest, intentions are a whole lot less intimidating than resolutions and allow for a little bit of slip up along the way. It is always my motto to focus on progress, not perfection. And this year I want to put my energy into this by setting intentions for the next year.
As this will be my last blog post of the year 2015,I felt this topic was not only appropriate, but timely and a great excuse to lay out my intentions for the next year.
I decided this next year to take some of the focus away from myself when it came to setting these intentions and use some of my energies to redirect my intentions towards others. So without further adu, here is my list of intentions for 2016:
1 – I intend to help as many people as I possibly can to become the strongest versions of themselves
2 – I intend to spend time with people that enrich my life and not those that add drama to it
3 – I intend to stay on a healthy journey to the strongest me
4 – I intend to make more of an effort to stay in touch with people that I have been out of touch with
5 – I intend to fine tune my yoga skills – as I am still in search of the perfect handstand 🙂
6 – I intend to find creative ways to stay active, as my schedule demands increase
7 – I intend to develop a deeper understanding of myself so I can be the best version of myself and cultivate deeper connections with others
Seven is my favorite number, so I’ll keep it at that. Often when we give ourselves too much to focus on, we simply cannot meet the demand it places on us. So I will leave it to these 7 and focus my energies on these items as I progress through the next year.
I challenge you to create your own list of intentions for 2016. Think about the things that you value and that bring enrichment to your life. Things that just generally bring a smile to your face. And start there. I’m sure we could all write a list a mile long, but try your best to focus in on just those things that are really speaking to your heart. There is time to tackle the world yet.
