Most of you know, I have quite the interesting schedule. Spending half my time in Boston, where my husband is completing fellowship to be a Pediatric Sport Medicine doc, and the other half of my time in So Cal, where my work is based. So if anyone can understand the difficulty of staying in any semblance of a routine, it’s me.
I have to be honest, it is much easier to stay in my healthy routine being at home in Boston. I manage my workout schedule and my meals much more tightly than I do when I am in CA. In CA, if I do not get up at the crack of dawn and workout, it’s likely that I will not workout at all, and this really bums me out 😦 But at the same time, I am one of those, who if I do not get an adequate amount of sleep, am useless to others and myself 😦 I take pride in making sure I am well rested and best prepared to tackle my day and my life. And while working out is really important to me, I would argue sleep is even more important, so if I have to chose one over the other, sleep is usually going to win out. Plus the better I slept, the better my workout is going to be!
So I guess the point of this post is this, don’t stress out so much over having the perfect routine and sticking to it perfectly every day of your life. Give yourself the latitude to make exceptions and re-adjust. I just always remember what my ultimate goal is, and if I missed that workout today, I might watch the food I put in my system a little closer than when I do workout. It’s all a balancing act and only you know what is best for you. So listen to yourself and trust that you can tweak your routine as you need to and still stay on your path to a stronger you!
